ABSTRACT

First, what is the curriculum? The term has usually been used to name the total planned course of study or programme of an educational institution or, in the case of the National Curriculum, a nation. If we are going to ‘study to teach’, as the title of this book suggests, is there a recognised curriculum of study to which we can all aspire? To answer this question we can explore some of the key concepts by looking at the history of educational study and the development of ‘curriculum studies’.
