ABSTRACT

In Chapters 2 and 4 the wide variety of factors that can contribute towards successful development of the subject expertise needed for teaching have been outlined. It has been argued that we need to consider:

the nature of the knowledge we require, and how it is organised;

the ways in which that knowledge fits into our broader learning about the process of teaching;

the specific demands of particular subject areas, and ways in which they are best approached;

our own preferred learning styles.
