ABSTRACT

There is a wonderfully humorous group therapy scene in The Sopranos in which young mobster Christopher is confronted by his mobster “family” and his actual family in an attempt at an “intervention” for his substance abuse. The group leader-immediately recognized by Christopher as the thief who “stole all those pork loins”—initiates the intervention calmly, but, within minutes, the group deteriorates into name-calling, chaotic communication, and ultimately physical violence. Not exactly a testament to the efficacy of group therapy!
