ABSTRACT
While the debate about electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) mainly deals with the advantages and difficulties in the cataloging and storage of electronic documents, we would like to underline some challenging elements in the production phase of theses. Although these elements may seem purely technical, they have important impact on strategic relations between students and theses supervisors and between students and their peers in their research field, and they also have epistemological consequences.
