ABSTRACT
This chapter looks at the relationship between research methods in public health and bioethical principles. This subject can be viewed from two perspectives: how do bioethical principles influence the choice of research design in public health? And how can the values people hold be elicited and explored so that they can be incorporated into public health decisions and practice? This chapter concentrates on the first topic. The second topic is discussed in Chapter 11, on public participation.
