ABSTRACT
The traditional approach (social choice rule approach) to rights and liberty is rather under-represented in this book. However, if Sen’s five-page paper of 1970 (Sen (1970)) had not been published, it is very likely that this book would have not existed. The purpose of this chapter is partly to repair this under-representation by providing comments on Sen’s original approach and to indicate some possible routes for new developments (new developments different from the literature on liberty based on opportunity sets and the literature based on game forms).
