ABSTRACT
In the late 1980s and early 1990s Western Europe was hit by a series of windstorms which had an unprecedented impact. Figures published by the reinsurance company Munich Re show a dramatic increase in the costs of severe storm events from 1960 onwards (Table 10.1).
