When studying the economic status of women, we have to rely on a number of indicators, the most widely reported measure being the femalemale earnings ratio. Commentators and researchers often cite gender discrimination as the most important source of the earnings gap.3 Although the gender earnings gap is still quite pervasive and significant, the differential has narrowed by a large margin in the last twenty years.
