ABSTRACT
Roles and visions are mutually reinforcing in terms of their ability to help us understand what foundations do and why they carry out specific roles. As the previous two chapters have shown the roles foundations aspire towards, as well as those which underpin their activities, are interlinked with extrinsic factors, notably the policy environment and intrinsic factors such as the size and resources of foundations.
