ABSTRACT

This study is concerned with the production and consumption of wine in the French region of Alsace. Alsace is located in eastern France bordering Germany. Its location has not only entangled the region in border disputes between the two countries but has meant that Alsace, depending on fluctuating political and economic circumstances, has been alternatively under either French or German rule.1 This in turn has influenced the people and practices of the region lending them distinct characteristics not observable in other regions of France.
