ABSTRACT
A recent New Yorker cartoon showed a woman in a window seat, apparently engrossed in her book. Across the room, which has built-in bookcases to the ceiling, a man is interrupted in his own reading by a persistent little boy. "Go bother your mother," says the man. "She's only reading chick lit."
