ABSTRACT

My purpose is to write on the complete published literary output of the contemporary American author Cormac McCarthy. is consists of eight novels, two short stories, one TV screenplay and an unperformed play for the theatre.² Both the depth and extent of this output may be considered oceanic in itself. I intend to identify themes that unify McCarthy’s texts and also to deal with the texts individually. In addition I shall trace lines of development that emerge when his oeuvre is considered as a whole.
