ABSTRACT

The bamboo is first of all used as a New Year decoration from one end of the country to the other. It adds to natural scenery in Japanese gardening and a potted bamboo is a gem. In Japanese tradition, a cat is very often represented to transmogrify itself as a human being and talk like man. The cat of Saga, for example, is the most famous case of a transmogrified cats. A monument was therefore erected to the memory of the faithful dog in the temple precincts and it is called the White-dog Monument. The Emperor Daigo was holding a party in the Shinsen-en Garden, when he saw a heron in one corner of the garden. The cherry symbolizes the national character of the Japanese. Kowakidani situated about three miles from the Fujiya Hotel at the heart of the Fuji-Hakone National Park is said to have thirty thousand cherries under the eye.
