ABSTRACT

He did more than read in Basrah; he also preached there the Unitarian faith. 'Some of the mushrekin,' he wrote, ' would come to me with questions, which I would answer;' and they would sit 'dumbfounded,' as he expounded the doctrine of the oneness of God. 'To Allah alone is worship due: to walis and good men we owe reverence. . .. We walk in the light of a wali, imitating his example; but we pray only to Allah.' He made a few converts in that city, but he did not follow up his success.
