ABSTRACT
A game which men, women and children enjoy together is battledore and shuttlecock. Even the domestic cats and dogs enjoy this game and snatch the shuttlecock when it strikes the ground, before anyone can retrieve it. This amusement is limited to the New Year's season, and great skill is shown in batting the ball and feathers. It is even more amusing to see the Chinese play this game, as they bat the "pill" from behind, using only the soles of their feet for bats.
