ABSTRACT

Some writers have speculated on the doings of Egyptians, Phoenicians, Assyrians and Israelites of Solomon's day on the East African coast in the two thousand years before Christ. It is true that Ancient Egypt and other countries of the Near East did trade with regions bordering the Gulf of Aden (known to the Egyptians as Punt), and from there as well as from the Persian Gulf they had contact with various lands bordering the Indian Ocean. But as far as Africa south ofthe Horn is concerned, one can only say that no evidence of contact has come to light, and that the subject does not merit discussion.
