Theory, the least finished or completed of any intellectual task, and most in need of public disclosure, is rarely equal to it. One publishes books and articles fully conscious that (despite the finality of the printed word, its standing as a matter of record) a word can be mute, especially when the ideas expressed are undergoing continuous revision.
