ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION The 8 August 1991 is a date which will be remembered for many years at OTICON, a Danish company based in Copenhagen which manufactures hearing aids. It was the date when the '330' project was introduced. The project is easily defined. It means that over a three-year period OTICON's aim should be to improve its headquarters' productivity by 30 per cent. The objective was to change the entire organisation of the company's headquarters into a completely flexible organisation, what the president of OTICON Lars Kolind has called a 'spaghetti organisation'. 'We removed the entire formal organisation. We now have a tremendous competitive advantage, because we don't care about formalities' Lars Kolind, The Tom Peters Seminar, BBC 2, Spring 1994.
