ABSTRACT

These concluding comments return to the central issue raised in the Introduction, the interrelationship of democracy, the democratizing process and the media. As we have seen, this is a huge and complex subject, made the more so by the intrinsic open-endedness of one of its central terms, democracy. Each one of the studies approaches this issue in its own way, whether in terms of geographical focus, the forms of media selected for consideration or the conception of democracy that informs the analysis. As such, each sheds its own particular light. But it may also be possible to discern some more general themes of relevance to our introductory questions.
