ABSTRACT
In the course of drafting the Paris Peace Treaty, Britain was successful in gaining acceptance for its security interests: removal of the German colonies as potential naval bases, elimination of Heligoland as a naval base and the drastic limitation of naval armament, reducing Germany to the status of a third-rate naval power.
