ABSTRACT

In society today, more and more families are on the move. The free movement of workers between member states of the European Community is encouraging families to move to where better work opportunities exist. Firms extend their business activities into other countries and employees relocate into these new branches. The effect of such moves on the families involved has not been examined closely. In particular, although exposure to unfamiliar cultural influences is widely acknowledged to be stressful (Furnham and Bochner, 1986), little is known about the consequences for children who move with their families from one country to another.
