ABSTRACT
In post-industrial societies such as the United States and Japan, alcohol abuse and alcoholism have emerged as major medical, men tal health, public health, and social problems. A variety of treatment and rehabilitative programs have been developed and used by profes sionals in both societies. However, among the treatment approaches developed in both countries, group approaches occupy the central position in the treatment and rehabilitation of alcoholic patients.
