ABSTRACT

This chapter is the first of several which deal more specifically with the individual faculty member, as opposed to entire hospitality programs. Instead, this chapter focuses specifically on the prepara tion that is necessary to launch a successful career as a hospitality educator. The issues raised include strategic career planning, educa tional preparation, hospitality work experience, networking personally and electronically, the job search, choosing and targeting hospitality programs, the academic selection process, anticipatory socialization, organizational entry, and the first five years on the job.
