ABSTRACT
An inevitable component of a faculty member 's professional life is teaching students. With research and service choices can be made; whether to do it, how much, when, and what type. A teaching assignment, however, is usually handed down via administrative fiat. Although teaching has long been ignored or downplayed in importance relative to research, the basic role of academia lies with instruction of students. This is particularly true in hospitality educa tion.
