ABSTRACT

The family remains the predominant social group in which people choose to spend their free time, particularly their vacations (Crompton, 1981; Cheek, Field, and Burge, 1976; Kaplan, 1975; Dumazedier, 1967). Thirty-nine million or 60 percent of all families in the United States took a vacation in 1984 (Davidson, 1985).
