ABSTRACT

As in other countries, ecotourism has attracted substantial interest in China, particularly among nature reserve managers. The significant number of visitors, both domestic and foreign, has led to positive and negative impacts on the reserves, impacts that are increasingly well understood through recent evaluations by the Chinese National Committee for Man and the Biosphere (China MAB, 1998; Han, 2000). This chapter provides an overview of ecotourism in China, including relevant policy, issues, and trends.
