ABSTRACT

Colorado is one of a number of states that have implemented a locally hosted statewide, Web-based interlibrary loan system. The initial target audience was small- to medium-sized libraries of any type that had not previously automated their interlibrary loan processes. After a year and a half of operation, staff from 275 public, academic, school, and special libraries have been trained on SWIFT (StateWide ILL Fast Track), and current transactions are about 103,000 annually. A cost analysis showed that libraries using the system have reduced their costs for both borrowing and lending.
