ABSTRACT

Multicultural children’s literature and literature written to support children and families in the navigation of shifting definitions of family are relatively new. Adoption professionals and parents have sought out children’s literature as a medium to facilitate discussion and to provide a language with which to navigate the socioemotional challenges of adoption. Literature written for Asian internationally adopted children began to appear in the 1970s, authored largely by adoptive parents out of a desire to develop a body of work that reflects their children’s experiences.
