ABSTRACT

The need to strengthen or develop expertise related to race and culture among parents who adopt across race in order to assist their children with unique racial and cultural issues has been discussed among scholars of transracial adoption, adult Korean adoptees, and transracial adoption practitioners. Little is known, however, about transracial adoptive (TRA) parents’ views of the importance of developing competence to assist their children with positive racial and ethnic identity development. The purpose of this study is to add to what is known about TRA parents’ perceptions of the role of race, ethnicity, and culture in their parenting.
