ABSTRACT
Text understanding is constructing a coherent representation of the information in a text. A text contains more information than what is explicitly expressed. The representation also contains information that is implied by the text: information that the writer supposes the reader will compute from the text and that the writer therefore leaves implicit. The computation of the implicit information is referred to as inferencing.
