ABSTRACT

Most people would probably agree that learning science with understanding is desirable for all students. However, not all teachers accept this as a feasible goal for their teaching, nor do all students adopt this as a goal for their learning. Many teachers believe that only those students with high aptitude and motivation will understand the science they teach, while the others will at least be exposed to the subject matter. Many students approach the tasks of instruction with the goal of simply getting them done, meeting the requirements for an acceptable grade, and memorizing information or procedures necessary to pass the tests.
