ABSTRACT

Until a cure or vaccine is found, prevention is the most important weapon against the AIDS epidemic. The mass media, especially television, have always been attractive channels for prevention messages because they have the potential of quickly and inexpensively disseminating information to millions of people. Chapter 7 by Salmon and Kroger describes “America Responds to AIDS,” the largest of these American AIDS media campaigns, and Chapter 6 by Marková and Power describes the British use of mass media to encourage AIDS prevention.
