ABSTRACT

In a world characterized by rapid and complex change and influenced by the effects of scientific and technological innovations, a sustained concern about the future is imperative. The distinguished futurist John Pratt (personal communication, November 1992) stated:

To survive, we must suddenly find out how to solve our problems in advance. ... It will take problem-solving by anticipation, global systems analysis, and collective decision-making with stabilizing feedbacks. Anticipatory decision-making comes to be of central importance for management and survival.
