ABSTRACT

The United States continues in a trend of ethnic and racial population diversification, a trend that inextricably and functionally ties the future of the United States as a whole to the future of the diverse populations of which it is comprised. This diversification is particularly pronounced among young and school-age children. Moreover, our next generation, in general, and ethnic and racial minority children, in particular, continue to be placed “at risk” in today’s social institutions. The future lies in understanding and devising concrete measures that will enable people of diverse backgrounds to overcome this apparent state of adversity to attain social, educational, and employment competence.
