ABSTRACT
This chapter approaches the topic of discourse comprehension from the perspective of general models of memory and cognition. Thus, I can best set the stage for discussion of some specific problems by giving a brief sketch of the evolution of current theory of discourse comprehension and production as viewed from my standpoint.
