ABSTRACT

What is the goal of education? This fundamental question is almost never seriously addressed by schools today. As a result, a cursory glance at a typical school curriculum would incline one to conclude that education’s goal is simply to transmit knowledge, and more specifically, to transmit the knowledge embodied in particular disciplines. Today, such limited goals are causing massive failure in our school system, precisely because of what they ignore. Effective education must direct itself not only to imparting knowledge, but also to accomplishing ends that are far more complex and difficult in their achievement.
