ABSTRACT
The authentic teaching, learning, and assessment of all students—ATLAS Communities—design is the product of collaborative effort among three school districts and four school reform organizations: the School Development Program, Project Zero, The Coalition of Essential Schools, and Education Development Center, Inc. Each of us brought to the table differing experiences and points of view about schools and learning. Even as our particular histories have varied, all of us found that we agreed on fundamentals. The task was not only to draw the best from each of our enterprises, but to create a coherent design in its own right, more than the sum of these parts.
