ABSTRACT

Society is witnessing an unprecedented phenomenon within the arena of telecommunications. Electronic global interconnectivity is growing at an exponential rate, and this worldwide network (i.e., the Internet) appears to be changing the face of communication within commerce, politics, academia, and the home. The explosive growth of the Internet leaves little doubt that communication is becoming a pervasive and powerful force in our society. In fact, in a keynote address to the 1995 Indiana Computer Educators conference, David Thornburg stated that we are no longer in the information age but are immersed in a communication age.
