ABSTRACT

The end of the Cold War and the extension of capitalist globalization to much more of the world have implications for conflict and military expenditures. This essay reviews the changed strategic situation, the extended process of globalization, how this process impacts on different types of states and the military decision-making process within them. Globalization will influence military expenditures through its effects on internal conflicts, military technology and organization, and the organization of the system as a whole. However, these influences will be complex and contradictory.
