ABSTRACT

FOR the past 3 years a group based at the Harvard Graduate School of Education has sought to theoretically and empirically investigate democratic organizations. This group has oriented toward practical projects in work democratization, both in worker-owned businesses and in “Quality of Work Life” projects of union-management cooperation. We intend our research to aid consultants to these two types of democratic organizations by providing systematic organizational assessments. We are developing a data base on a number of firms that will allow us to make comparative assessments. In addition, we are investigating theoretical questions concerning the relationship between work environments and the socio-moral development of adults.
