ABSTRACT

Currently, dominant theories of comprehension and cognition are schema theories. They all assign a central role in comprehension to high-level, domain-specific cognitive structures variously referred to as frames (Minsky, 1975), scripts (Schank & Abelson, 1977), schemata (Rumelhart, 1978; Rumelhart & Ortony, 1977), or macro structures (Kintsch & van Dijk, 1978).
