ABSTRACT

This study employed a relatively new method for investigating information processing or cognition in infants. Historically, past studies have focused on motoric responses of the infant, for example, orienting to a novel stimulus, as evidence for such processes (Flavell, 1985; Rovee-Collier, 1984; Sophian, 1980, 1981). The present approach utilized an objective measure of neurophysiology functioning: the event-related potential (ERP) (Galambos & Hillyard, 1981; Hillyard & Kutas, 1983; Picton, 1980; Sphelman, 1985).
