ABSTRACT

A survey of the history of thematic catalogs from Kôchel to the present, marking the years 1955, 1965, and 1972 as significant turning points. A brief account is given of the problems involved in the production of RISM AIII and to predictions for thematic catalogs of the future. It includes bibliographies of thematic catalogs used in the Library of Congress Uniform Titles (as of 1972), and thematic catalogs in series (1969–1987), plus a selected bibliography of secondary literature.
