ABSTRACT

This Festschrift, Technical Services Management, 1965-1990: A Quarter Century of Change and a Look to the Future, honors Kathryn Luther Henderson, inspirational teacher, colleague, and friend. Through a quarter century plus of teaching at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, “Kathie” has dedicated herself to educating about the “hidden” user service–technical services. Her students take it for granted that acquisitions, cataloging, and preservation of library materials are public services. In any course Kathryn Henderson teaches, the question “Why are we doing this?” is always asked. And, the answer always is, “For the user.”
