ABSTRACT
Major general Henry Spencer Palmer died in Tokyo on 10 February 1893 at the age of 54. 1 Palmer, who was well known not only as a soldier but also as a scientist, became ill and died while he was engaged in the construction of Yokohama harbour. He was buried in Aoyama cemetery in Tokyo where a tomb stone 2 was erected by his friends in Tokyo.
