ABSTRACT

Studies of overseas Chinese businesses, what we have called diaspora Chinese capitalism, have long been bedevilled by the area boundaries of academic disciplines and expertise. Country studies or research that stops at the borders of Southeast, East Asia or of China, accumulate. Meanwhile those studied, small owners as well as billionaire tycoons, move their investments, their family members and themselves readily back and forth across these boundaries, facilitated by complex, historically-constructed transnational networks.
