ABSTRACT
The question of economic dependence has been right at the heart of economic thinking for more than a decade, illustrating that theory finds it hard to avoid dealing with problems which arise from the heart of reality. The study of relations between the two great traditional colonial powers and their ex-colonies should prove particularly rewarding. We shall confine ourselves to certain aspects of the relations between France and its ex-colonies, but this still raises questions of general interest.
