ABSTRACT

'Talking Stones' is an interview technique that is designed to support self advocacy particularly for groups of disaffected students whose views may be difficult to ascertain. It makes an assumption that, for the individual student, everything is perceived and mediated by what is salient, socially and personally. This chapter illustrates how the technique lends itself to practice in schools by laying bare problematic relationships between, commonly, students and teachers, and opening up dialogue between them.
