ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with Nurture Groups, which are a form of educational provision for children with Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD). The specific focus of the chapter is an exploration of the body of research that provides insight into the effects of Nurture Groups on the social, emotional, behavioural and educational functioning of children with SEBD. After a brief account of the history of Nurture Groups and their theoretical and organisation features, particular attention is given to the University of Leicester Nurture Group Research Project. 2 This is a national study of the personal, social and educational outcomes associated with NG placement that took place in the UK between 1999 and 2001.
