ABSTRACT
The word ‘city’ can mean different things to different people. For some, it may evoke images of towering spires and neon lights, seemingly endless opportunity, and the buzz of millions of people going about their business; for others however, a darker image of dirty streets, overcrowded trains, noise and crime may dominate. These views reflect the complexity of modern cities and suggest that multiple interpretations of the physical and social urban environment are possible.
